Job description

Pharmacosmos is a specialist in iron therapy and our ambition is to empower healthcare professionals to provide optimal care for patients suffering from iron deficiency anaemia, which accounts for 2% of the total global disease burden. The Pharmacosmos UK/IE team has grown considerably in the last three years and actively supports research, medical education and service development related to iron deficiency care.

The role of the Anaemia Nurse Advisor is to build strong relationships with nurses and nursing groups involved in the treatment of iron deficiency to ensure understanding of patient needs and the needs of healthcare systems. The Anaemia Nurse Advisor will also be responsible for building expert knowledge within the nursing community to ensure that our IV iron products are used in the correct way.

The position reports to the National Medical Lead and supports health professionals in UK and IE. Prioritization of service activities coordinated in collaboration with National Medical Lead.


  1. Support nurse experts involved in the treatment of iron deficiency, at conferences, through company initiatives, and upon request from nurses and other healthcare professionals
  2. Support the development of nurses and nurse experts in iron deficiency care through educational projects, and work with them to secure and drive best practices in the treatment of iron deficiency
  3. Lead and organise Nurse Advisory Boards where appropriate
  4. Secure implementation of optimal Iron Therapy by planning and organising ‘Product Implementation’ and ‘IDA Educational’ workshops, onsite support during the first product administration to patients, each provided by internal Anaemia Nurse Advisor or identified external Nurse Experts and supporting service development and health service audits etc. within secondary care, when requested by healthcare professionals
  5. Reactively and proactively identify initiatives to improve the treatment of iron deficiency, establish local understanding/evidence, improve current clinical practices and improve the treatment of iron deficiency, working with the wider business to make these happen, after management approval
  6. Identify, share and advance optimal iron therapy practices and co-develop nurse and patient support tools and materials with identified Nurse Experts
  7. Work with Medical Information Officer to develop clinical answers to commonly asked medical enquiries and provide reactive medical information answers to healthcare professionals when appropriate
  8. Provision of internal training and support to wider business, including the sales and marketing team
  9. Ensure internal SOPs and processes are followed, including those around pharmacovigilance and company standards regarding the reporting and quality monitoring of activities
  10. Survey health professionals’ satisfaction with the services offered

Professional background

Qualified, registered nurse (RGN or equivalent), with good working knowledge of infusion medicine. Knowledge of nephrology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology, patient blood management, surgical enhanced recovery or haematology an advantage, experience in iron deficiency an advantage but not necessary. Previous experience working for a pharmaceutical company essential. Nurse band: 5 or higher. Preferably ABPI certified, or with a good understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice. The individual would require a strong drive and self-motivation to help establish and improve best practices in iron deficiency care.

Geography and travels

The Anaemia Nurse Advisor is part of the medical team covering all of UK and Ireland and travel throughout this region would be required.

Extensive travelling is required: 3-4 days per week. Travel by car, train and flight. To be fully able to support busy healthcare professionals, workshops may often be booked with short notice, so ability and flexibility to travel is an absolute must.


The Anaemia Nurse Advisor has authority to manage and carry out appointments and meetings with customers and lead/organise/carry out projects approved by the National Medical Lead. The Anaemia Nurse Advisor will act on his/her own initiative to achieve his or her objectives.
